Octopus, Octo’s or Alternate Air Source, All Descriptions For The Same Part Of Your Regulator! In the unlikely event that you or your buddy run low on or out of air the Octopus is your back up air supply. Your Octopus should be a well performing, simple, reliable regulator that is bright yellow so easy to identify in an emergency.

The Octopus is on a longer hose, usually 1m (some maybe 110cm or 90cm) that is brightly coloured, usually yellow. It is then secured to you using a form of quick release Octopus clip similar to these. Some divers select a matching Octopus to their high performing second stage however this is not necessary as this alternate regulator is seldom if ever used. So it is more common to select an Octopus that does not have features such as “Dial a Breath” which means they are simpler to use in an emergency with no diver adjustments.
